‘Il ratto delle Sabine’ by Giambologna
'The Abduction of the Sabine Women’ is a complex figura serpentinata statue by Flemish sculptor Giambologna (Johannes of Boulogne). The sculpture depicts a scene of early Roman legend, when the city committed a raptio of young women from nearby Sabina. This black and white photograph captures the unfolding clash of desire and horror as the woman struggles against her abductor.
