Apoxyomenos
Black and white photograph of the Vatican Apoxyomenos from behind; a statue from approximately 50 AD, based on a bronze original by Lysippus. The term Apoxyomenos comes from the Greek verb meaning to clean oneself: ancient Greek athletes used to scrape off the oils used to anoint the body before competitions with sand and a spoon-like tool, called a strigil. This print uses stark contrast to capture the idealised male form, celebrated through antiquity as muscled and well-exercised.

As each piece is custom printed and framed just for you, I'm unable to accept the return of unwanted items. In the rare event of transit damage or misprint issues, please contact me with your order number and a photo of the problem to arrange a speedy replacement.
