A minimalist single-line drawing of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, craft, and strategic warfare. The whole figure is carried in a single continuous line — helmet, profile, the lift of a spear.
Athena was born, in the oldest version of the myth, fully armoured from the forehead of Zeus after he swallowed her pregnant mother Metis. She was the patron deity of Athens (the city takes its name from her, or she takes hers from it — the order was already disputed in antiquity) and the protector of heroes: she guides Perseus to Medusa, Bellerophon to Pegasus, Odysseus home from Troy. Her attributes are the helmet, the aegis (a goatskin shield bearing the head of Medusa) and the owl — the emblem of clear-eyed thought.
