The Statue of Antinous at Delphi
Antinous was a young Greek 'favourite' of the Roman Emperor Hadrian, and a figure of extraordinary beauty and mystery. His tragic death left behind a legacy immortalised in countless statues, including the one unearthed at Delphi in 1894 (dated roughly to the year of his death), which remains among the most striking depictions.
This black-and-white art print highlights the statue’s exquisite details: the cascade of his loose curls, the soft curve of his lips, and his serene, youthful gaze. The high-contrast composition deepens the emotional resonance, with the right side of his face cast in shadow, evoking an air of mystery and quiet melancholy.
